This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15
Lord God, Our heavenly Father, we pause to praise you as we come to you in prayer. You are the creator of all things and the giver of all good gifts.
Thank you for the blessings you have poured out and lavished upon us. Health, food, clothes, family, friends, church community, and we could continue. But the greatest gift you have given us is your Holy Spirit.
Lord, you promised to give your Holy Spirit to your people way back in the Old Testament, and we read of the powerful ways your Spirit worked through people then.
Lord Jesus, you promised the Holy Spirit to your disciples before you ascended to heaven, and you have promised it to us.
Your Word reminds us that you are faithful to answer the prayers we pray. We know it is your good will for us to receive your Holy Spirit’s power, so we ask you: Come Holy Spirit.
We thank you for the promise that as we ask, we will receive, so, we posture ourselves in the position to receive, giving thanks to you for the gift we know you are pouring out upon us.
Lord, we ask in faith for the outpouring of your Holy Spirit over the church right now. Lord your Spirit, which gives guidance, wisdom and power to witness in this world.
Empower your church so that we may be amazed at her witness that will come forth in the coming days.
Thank you for the promise of your Holy Spirit for your church!
We praise you for the blessing Lord. In Jesus’ name, we pray Amen.
