A Prayer Guide for the Canadian Federal Election (April 28, 2025)
Canada will vote in its federal election on April 28, 2025. This is a critical time for Canada and an opportunity to uphold the nation in intercession. Prayer is a powerful way to seek guidance, wisdom, and unity for the country. Here is a prayer guide to help you intercede for Canada, its leaders, and its people.
Praying for Wisdom for Leaders
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 1 Timothy 2:1–2
Heavenly Father, we lift up our current and future leaders. Grant them wisdom to govern with integrity and justice. May they seek the common good and lead our nation in paths of righteousness.
Unity Among Citizens
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1
Lord, in this election season, we pray against division and strife. Unite us as a nation, helping us to listen to one another with respect and understanding, regardless of differing viewpoints.
Protection of the Electoral Process
for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Proverbs 2:8
Almighty God, we ask for Your protection over the electoral process. Safeguard it from corruption, interference, and dishonesty. May the election be conducted fairly, reflecting the true voice of the people.
Encouraging Voter Participation
If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. James 4:17
Lord, stir the hearts of Canadians to recognize the importance of their vote. Encourage active and informed participation, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued.
Seeking Justice and Compassion in Policies
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
Father, we pray that the policies enacted by our leaders reflect Your heart for justice and compassion. May they prioritize the needs of the vulnerable and uphold the dignity of all citizens.
Peace Amidst Political Tensions
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6–7
God of peace, amidst the tensions and uncertainties of this election, calm our hearts. Replace anxiety with trust in Your sovereign will, knowing that You hold the future of our nation.
Gratitude for Democratic Privileges
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Lord, we thank You for the privilege of living in a democratic society where we can freely choose our leaders. May we never take this freedom for granted but always approach it with gratitude and responsibility.
Discernment for Voters
My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; Proverbs 3:21
Holy Spirit, guide voters to discern truth from misinformation. Help them to make informed decisions that align with values of justice, peace, and the common good.
Integrity Among Candidates
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. Proverbs 11:3
Lord, we pray for all candidates to conduct their campaigns with honesty and integrity. May they focus on issues rather than personal attacks and seek to serve rather than be served.
The Church’s Role in Society
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:13–14
Jesus, empower Your Church to be a beacon of hope and truth during this election season. May we engage in the political process in ways that reflect Your love and righteousness.
Protection from External Influences
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:13–14
Sovereign Lord, protect our nation from undue external influences that seek to disrupt or manipulate our democratic processes. Establish Canada as a nation that stands firm in its values and decisions.
Future Prosperity and Well-being
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
Father, we entrust Canada’s future into Your hands. May the leaders elected work towards the prosperity, health, and well-being of all citizens, fostering a society where everyone can thrive.
Media Integrity
The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy. Proverbs 12:22
God of truth, we pray for the media to report with accuracy and impartiality. May they serve as instruments of information rather than manipulation, helping citizens to be well-informed.
